McMarden began in 2015 in a garage on Alameda Street, a mile from where the studio stands now. The founders — R.B. of McD and DAVEY — set out to make clothes they and their friends actually wanted to wear: denim cut for the way a body moves, chambray softened by the sun, wool that holds a crease through a wedding and a wake. Ten years and eleven collections later, the vocabulary is intentionally small — jackets, shirts, trousers, one dress. We keep the pattern rooms in-house and cut everything within a five-mile radius. Nothing leaves the studio without being worn by at least one of us for a week. The house has been quietly built through a decade of small drops, journal letters, listening parties, and clothing worn hard in public. We have grown by not growing much. Every season is a revision of the last one — not a repudiation of it.
Fashion is a language. A wardrobe is how you introduce yourself to the day.
The present can be quite loud at times. McMarden is designed for a community that understands a whisper can subdue the noise. A low hum, a high frequency, and the space in-between, we find beauty in the subtle detail.
Our mission statement is your mission statement, for we are here to grow, to learn, to learn…to exchange energy, words and sartorial language. Our power can be found in the details, woven in the silk, the virgin wool and Japanese denim, for there is beauty in pausing to learn from our flaws and channeling that raw energy back into the craft.
