A Snippet from the Studio

Second fitting, third time this week. R. holds the jacket up to the door light, thumbs the hem, doesn't like it. We take it back to the bench. Everything we make ends up here at least twice.

The pattern is right. The shoulder is not. We shave a quarter-inch and pin it again. Nobody says anything for a while. Then D. says: "That's it." And it is.

The lesson, if there is one, is that a garment is a conversation you have with a body. Second fitting, third time this week. R. holds the jacket up to the door light, thumbs the hem, doesn't like it. We take it back to the bench. Everything we make ends up here at least twice.

Chambray, in the good light.

Shot the Lover Boy Pullover in a rented storefront on Broadway. The morning light lasted about forty minutes. We got what we needed in twenty. The rest of the roll is the model laughing at something the assistant said.

The pullover is one of those pieces we've made in some form for years now. This is the version we think will stay.
